NBA superstar LeBron James has been seen sporting a pair of limited-edition RTFKT x Nike sneakers, causing a stir among Clone X NFT holders and shining a spotlight on the growing convergence of sports, fashion, and blockchain technology.
LeBron James, widely recognized as one of the greatest basketball players of our era, was spotted wearing the RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 Genesis sneakers prior to the Los Angeles Lakers’ victorious Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors.
These sneakers can only be obtained by minting an Ethereum-based NFT from RTFKT, a subsidiary of Nike. The sighting quickly gained widespread attention among RTFKT NFT holders and garnered significant social media buzz, with the company itself sharing a detailed image of the shoes on Twitter.
The RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 Genesis sneakers form an extremely exclusive collection, featuring just 1,776 pairs available through NFT purchases. On the secondary market, prices for the Genesis NFTs start at 0.4 ETH or $740 on OpenSea. Additionally, several other NFT-based RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers are up for grabs, including the ultra-exclusive “Alien” style, limited to a mere 60 pairs and priced from 5 ETH ($9,245).
The collaboration between RTFKT and Nike, coupled with LeBron James’ recent involvement in the world of NFTs, underscores the growing influence of digital assets in the sports and fashion industries. Nike has also introduced its own digital sneakers and apparel platform called “.SWOOSH” on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon. The platform has amassed over 330,000 users and has announced the upcoming launch of the “Our Force 1” NFT-based sneakers, set to commence on May 8.
