Mawari Launches Testnet in Japan as GSMA Foundry Project

Mawari, a cloud rendering and XR streaming leader, has launched a Testnet in Japan as part of the GSMA Foundry Project.

KDDI Corporation, a Japanese telecommunications giant, has joined the project as the first collaborating partner. KDDI will provide edge rendering, validating, and storage nodes, as well as the last-mile 5G network for the project.

The goal of the project is to showcase the world’s first Web3 decentralized XR content delivery platform that can scale real-time 3D rendering and streaming to XR wearable devices through 5G.

Mawari has spent the past six years developing proprietary technologies, including Split Rendering frameworks and 3D streaming CODECs of the Mawari Engine, which will power the Mawari Network Testnet.

In 2023, KDDI and Mawari will collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform to conduct use case exploration in Japan’s consumer and entertainment verticals using XR wearables. The most compelling examples will be showcased in the future.

The GSMA Foundry initiative will allow other operators worldwide to observe and learn from this pioneering work in XR delivery and 5G monetization.
