NFTs Unlikely to Make an Appearance in Grand Theft Auto 6

Speculations regarding the potential integration of cryptocurrencies into the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) have emerged, aligning the popular franchise with the growing Web3 movement. These rumors suggest that NFTs may be used as rewards and featured as in-game items.

    Unlikelihood of Cryptocurrency
Assets in GTA 6 It is highly unlikely that GTA 6 will incorporate any form of crypto assets. Rockstar Games, the creator of the game, has previously prohibited NFTs from being used in GTA 5 online servers, and the play-to-earn model is too experimental and unsustainable for the company to consider.

However, there might be a possibility of cryptocurrencies being mentioned in the game’s script. The GTA series is known for its humorous writing, so it is plausible that cryptocurrencies will be satirically referenced.

    Resurfacing Rumors
The latest round of rumors spread on Twitter last week, generating renewed excitement within the crypto community. Nevertheless, there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Rockstar Games has plans to venture into the Web3 space.

The declining viability of the play-to-earn (P2E) model acts as a significant deterrent to crypto integration. P2E, which enables players to earn cryptocurrencies through gameplay, is no longer as sustainable as it once seemed in the realm of blockchain-based games.

Grand Theft Auto V, as reported by Statista, has sold over 180 million units worldwide since 2015, solidifying its position as one of the highest-grossing game titles ever released. Over the past decade, the franchise, owned by Take-Two Interactive, has generated more than $8 billion in revenue. Given this tremendous success, Rockstar has no incentive to embrace the risky P2E model.

Furthermore, Rockstar’s recent stance on NFTs lends credibility to the notion that GTA 6 will remain free from crypto integration. In November 2022, the company updated its guidelines, explicitly stating that fan-operated servers for Grand Theft Auto V are no longer permitted to utilize NFTs.

No Official Statement from Rockstar Rockstar Games has chosen to remain silent regarding these rumors, neither confirming nor denying them. As fans eagerly await the release of GTA 6 in 2024, the question of crypto integration will undoubtedly continue to spark debates and speculation.
