Rosario Dawson and Tony Revolori to star in NFT-backed anime

Web3 startup Gala Games is producing an NFT-backed Western anime series, Ghosts of Ruin, starring Rosario Dawson and Tony Revolori. The story is set in a near-future dystopian San Francisco where a group of gamers compete in a deadly tournament that integrates games directly into players’ minds. The pilot episode will be available exclusively to NFT holders and later will be offered to streaming platforms.

Gala Games’ entertainment branch, Gala Film, is producing the show, which is funded by specialized NFTs that offer varying levels of immersive access to the series. For $250 worth of GALA tokens, buyers will get access to the show, exclusive content, and digital collectibles. The rarest tier costs $2,500 worth of GALA tokens and allows holders to be directly involved in the show’s production as a character or contributor.

The pilot episode of the show will be produced and developed by new media content studio Battle Island and is set to premiere on Gala’s platform in August. Dawson, known for her role as Ahsoka Tano in several Disney+ Star Wars series, will voice the character Prism, a determined pro gamer.

Gala Games previously announced that actors Danny Trejo and Mena Suvari will join RZR, another Web3-native series set to premiere exclusively on the startup’s platform this summer. However, the company faced challenges when cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced it would not support an upgraded version of the company’s GALA token without providing an explanation.

The Ghosts of Ruin project showcases the growing intersection of entertainment and blockchain technology, with NFTs playing a crucial role in funding the show’s production. The innovative approach of offering NFTs as a way of financing a new television series presents an exciting opportunity for the intersection of these two worlds.
