    Trezor’s Africa Bitcoin Education Initiative

Trezor, a prominent hardware cryptocurrency wallet provider, has taken proactive strides in promoting Bitcoin education across Africa. Launching the Trezor Academy and funding local initiatives such as Bitcoineta and the Africa Bitcoin Conference, the firm continues its commitment to fostering Bitcoin awareness and education worldwide.

The recently unveiled Trezor Academy, introduced during the Africa Bitcoin Conference held in Accra, Ghana, on December 4, signifies a pivotal step in the firm’s dedication to spreading Bitcoin knowledge in Africa. This educational program, initially piloted in 2023, orchestrates in-person meetups facilitated by local Bitcoin experts. Its primary goal is to empower individuals with a platform to explore Bitcoin’s potential, specifically tailored for African communities.

Currently active in Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya, the Trezor Academy plans an ambitious expansion throughout 2024. The initiative aims to establish academies in over ten new African countries, engaging hundreds of local educators to further disseminate Bitcoin expertise.

CEO Matej Zak underscored Bitcoin’s relevance in Africa, emphasizing its applicability in local initiatives like payment systems, microfinancing, and savings. Trezor’s comprehensive education program in Africa extends support to Bitcoineta, an initiative employing a Bitcoin-themed car to raise awareness about Bitcoin across West African nations, including Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. Originally launched in 2018 by Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Americana, the Bitcoineta campaign operates through a specially branded Land Rover, touring rural communities and schools in the Economic Community of West African States.

Kicking off on December 1, the African Bitcoineta road trip aims to amplify Bitcoin awareness across the region, documented through video blogs and media channels, and shared via the official Bitcoineta X account. Trezor acknowledges the community’s role in enabling the Trezor Academy, drawing support from the sale of its limited edition Bitcoin-only version of the Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet, launched in October 2023.
