Ubisoft, the gaming giant, revealed plans to introduce a fresh collection of NFT avatars within The Sandbox, a prominent metaverse game. This strategic move aligns with Ubisoft’s escalating presence in the blockchain realm, positioning it as a leading major player in this innovative landscape.
What’s New in The Sandbox?
The upcoming avatars are inspired by Ubisoft’s latest Netflix animated series, “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.” A fusion of diverse Ubisoft franchises, this mature-themed show serves as the creative muse for these avatars, reflecting a blend of eclectic characters.
The collection showcases 1,866 distinct player avatars, including beloved figures like Rayman, Jade, and Pey’j from Beyond Good & Evil. Minted on the Polygon network, these avatars will exude a futuristic, cyberpunk style echoing the series’ distinctive aesthetic.
While the pricing for these avatars remains undisclosed, their minting is slated for November 29. In a previous Sandbox venture, Ubisoft introduced avatars from the Rabbids franchise, each sold for 100 $SAND tokens. Given the current value of $SAND, this roughly translates to $42, although it was valued significantly higher at the time of sale.
Exploring “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix”
The animated series itself stems from Far Cry 3’s expansion, Blood Dragon, and comprises a medley of references and characters from diverse Ubisoft titles, such as Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon.
Ubisoft’s Steadfast Commitment to Web3
Ubisoft’s foray into the Web3 sector is rapidly expanding. The company recently announced a complimentary Ethereum NFT drop associated with its upcoming game, Champions Tactics, on the Oasys blockchain, in partnership with Immutable, renowned for its Immutable X and Immutable zkEVM networks.
This latest endeavor signifies yet another significant stride in Ubisoft’s blockchain journey, merging popular game personas with the burgeoning realms of NFTs and the metaverse.
