The Blur network reels from another devastating blow as NFT investors fall victim to a phishing attack, resulting in the loss of prized assets like Mutant Ape Yacht Club and Moonbirds. This marks the second assault on the marketplace in a span of just over a week.
Renowned blockchain security firm PeckShieldAlert brought the distressing incident to light via a tweet, rattling the digital art and crypto spheres. The same perpetrator behind last week’s crisis has struck again, this time snatching 185 CryptoPhunks and 7,304 Meebits in a similar phishing attack on the Blur network.
The malefactor, operating under the moniker “Fake_Phishing187019,” has strategically targeted high-value NFTs, evading identification thus far.
PeckShieldAlert reveals that the recent attack, akin to its precursor, exploits various methods, including leveraging the ERC2771 standard, to breach the security of NFT holdings.
Left in a state of despair, original owners witness their stolen NFTs in the hands of this malicious actor. As efforts escalate to uncover and bring these high-profile NFT thieves to justice, the NFT community faces an urgent call for bolstered security measures to fortify defenses against future phishing endeavors.
