Casio to Unveil Virtual G-SHOCK NFTs on Polygon

Casio, the Japanese electronics giant, is entering the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with its iconic G-SHOCK watch. In collaboration with Polygon Labs, a developer focused on Ethereum scaling solutions, Casio is set to release a collection of NFT-based community access passes featuring its virtual G-SHOCK watch.

The launch is scheduled to commence on September 23, offering 15,000 NFT-based G-SHOCK creator passes to users. These passes grant access to a dedicated Discord channel for the project. Initially, Casio customers registered for a CASIO ID on the company’s membership site will have the opportunity to participate in the pre-distribution stage from September 23 to 26. Subsequently, a public distribution phase will run from September 26 to 29.

This move follows Casio’s recent trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, filed on August 22. The application covers virtual clothing and watches, NFT-backed media, and stores for virtual goods, indicating Casio’s intent to leverage the popularity of its shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch, which has seen over 100 million units shipped since its introduction in 1983.

In a novel approach to community engagement, Casio will invite users to submit design ideas for the G-SHOCK creator pass during the initial community initiative. Users will also be able to vote on the appearance of the pass, with the winning design becoming a variant of the NFT pass.

Casio chose Polygon as its partner for this venture due to its ability to facilitate lightning-fast, seamless, and carbon-neutral NFT transactions. The goal is to create a frictionless and user-friendly experience for G-SHOCK enthusiasts.

The collection will be accessible to residents of several countries, including the U.S., UK, Germany, Italy, Japan, and many others.

Casio joins the ranks of major brands like DraftKings, Adidas, and Starbucks, who have embraced NFTs on Polygon, marking a trend of global brands expanding their presence in the web3 world.
