Immutable Labs, the Sydney-based company responsible for the Immutable X layer 2 solution, is launching a new feature called “Immutable Passport” this month. The goal of the project is to provide gamers with access to multiple metaverses using a single sign-on, potentially bringing the next billion users to Web3.
The mainstream adoption of Web3 games is hindered by several challenges, such as the high cost of entry, lack of focus on quality gameplay, and complexity of getting started in the space. The process of setting up a crypto wallet, acquiring a specific cryptocurrency, and purchasing NFTs can be quite daunting. The Immutable Passport is a solution to these obstacles.
The Immutable Passport tackles the aforementioned obstacles by offering hassle-free onboarding and interoperability through a self-custodial wallet. The Passport is already available in early access, allowing users to sign in with just their email and a one-time password to gain access to a seamless experience across multiple games.
The Immutable Passport not only caters to users but also to game developers by ensuring that their projects are integrated into an interoperable gaming environment from the beginning of the development process, eliminating the need for retrofitting the Passport into the code later on. This concept is a game-changer for players, significantly lowering user acquisition expenses, according to Robbie Ferguson, the President, and co-founder of Immutable.
With additional features to be added in the coming months, the Immutable Passport could be the solution to mainstream adoption of Web3 gaming.
