Nike has announced the launch of its first-ever virtual sneaker non-fungible token (NFT) series, which will be available on its Web3 platform .Swoosh. Ahead of the upcoming release of the Our Force 1 (OF1) Collection in three weeks, the company has introduced a series of virtual AF1 posters that will be distributed among .Swoosh members starting from the next day. The posters will be used to unlock an OF1 box NFT, which can be minted from May 8 onwards. The entire .Swoosh community can purchase the OF1 boxes starting from May 10.
The OF1 collection will feature Polygon virtual sneakers NFTs to pay tribute to the enduring Nike Air Force 1, which was first released 41 years ago. The drop will include Classic Remix sneaker boxes, which will consist of digital renditions of Air Force 1 sneakers created between 1982 and 2006, as well as New Wave boxes that will have pairs produced in 2007 and beyond. In addition, the drop will offer an unspecified number of more distinct, customized AF1s that feature a “nostalgic twist” along with expressive AF1s that are designed with a more “futuristic twist”. The virtual shoe boxes will be available for purchase at $19.82 each to honor the release year of the Air Force 1.
The virtual AF1 posters pay tribute to the .Swoosh community’s participation in the OF1 competition, which includes twenty different Air Force 1 styles featured across the four posters, chosen based on votes in the Cultural, Heritage, Innovation, and Regional brackets. With this initiative, Nike is offering a unique opportunity for its customers to purchase virtual sneakers that will offer a new level of experience for sneakerheads who have been eagerly waiting for this release.
