Sega’s Optimism for Upcoming NFT Trading Card Game

Shuji Utsumi, the Chief Operating Officer of Sega, has shared his optimism regarding the company’s blockchain gaming endeavor, the “Battle of Three Kingdoms,” despite his prior reservations about play-to-earn games.

    Sega’s Foray into Web3 Gaming
Sega’s latest project, “Battle of Three Kingdoms,” is the result of their collaboration with blockchain company Double Jump.Tokyo. This NFT trading card game, drawing inspiration from the original Sangokushi Taisen game launched in 2005, is designed with a focus on Asia’s gaming community. It is set to debut with an array of over 100 unique cards, with a promise of consistent patches and updates post-launch.

Sega is dedicated to revitalizing the Sangokushi Taisen game’s intellectual property and has taken measures to protect its licensing rights. To underline its commitment, Sega has appointed the original game’s producer to supervise the development of this new project and will contribute game assets to the venture.

    Challenges in NFT Gaming
While expressing his enthusiasm for NFTs in the gaming sphere, Utsumi recognizes the existing challenges. The utilization of crypto wallets, which store assets like NFTs, presents a learning curve for users, particularly when dealing with websites for transactions. Utsumi emphasized the importance of introducing players to the game before immersing them in the intricacies of wallets.

However, despite these obstacles, Utsumi remains optimistic, stating, “I’m eager to see NFTs recreate the tangible sensation of card ownership.”

As Sega ventures into the world of blockchain and NFTs, it reflects the broader trend of traditional gaming companies exploring the potential of blockchain technology and digital collectibles in the gaming industry. The success of “Battle of Three Kingdoms” could serve as a notable milestone in this evolving landscape.
